While authentic ingredients and dishes remain popular, Greek street food is being influenced by the economic crisis and new immigrants. The result is an interesting and delicious mix of traditional and new flavors. CNN’s John Malathronas travelled to Athens to learn about and sample the country’s most popular foods.
Street Art Conservators, or st.a.co, was founded four years ago by students at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens with a worthy goal in mind: to protect and preserve street art around Athens.
“We owe it to our ancestors, we owe it to our children, to keep the light of our civilization burning… it’s an obligation to contribute to a better tomorrow,” says Andreas Dracopolous, co-president of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). The new Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), which opened this past June, serves as a facility and resource for Greek culture.
The Athens Festival has been showcasing and celebrating arts and culture for 56 summers. It was originally organized as a high arts festival in 1955. Now known as the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, it’s a summer-long series of orchestra, dance, and theater performances presented across Athens.
