The Athens Festival has been showcasing and celebrating arts and culture for 56 summers. It was originally organized as a high arts festival in 1955. Now known as the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, it’s a summer-long series of orchestra, dance, and theater performances presented across Athens.
Festival events take place at multiple sites, including the National Theater of Greece and the Greek National Opera. One of best venues is the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, a theater on the south side of the Acropolis that was constructed in the second century.
Events and performances this year include Greek National Opera: Aida, musician Giorgis Christodoulou, Vassilis Mavrogeorgiou – Skrow theater group, the Athens Open Air Film Festival 2016 – Macbeth, and much more. See full calendar of events.
